"When my son was three he started inventing words. Yestertime for anything that happened before right now. Trifficult for something that's hard. Awesomer. I kept a list on my phone, the way you do, and the list got long."

"One Christmas I put yestertime on three hoodies, one for each of us. We wore them everywhere. People stopped us to ask what it meant, and every single time we told them, they came back with a word their own kid made up. Everybody has one."

"So I built isms. His words, printed big in a fat seventies font, and a spot next to his for yours. You type your kid's word, see it on the hoodie, and it's printed to order in the USA. The words don't last. Around five or six they hear the real one enough times and quietly correct. This is how you keep one."
